Learn How to Crochet Crocodile Stitch with Tamara Kelly

I love this class. I bought this class months ago and I did not regret I did it. The instructions are so clear and so easy to make. When you see the stitches you would really thought that it is so hard to do, but then with this class it makes all easy.

And here is what I made from watching and going along the class. I love my pillow. It's quite small for a throw pillow because I use a smaller yarn and a smaller hook. I bought the yarn locally and I used a G hook or 4.0mm.
For your information this is only one pillow. Just different in every side.

And good news because it is on sale right now at Craftsy.  So go ahead and avail of the sale before it ends. You won't regret. I promise!.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!

Free Pattern: 5 Halloween Wreath

Halloween is so fast approaching. I don't really make any decors for Halloween, we don't even celebrate Halloween. But there are so many beautiful and colorfyl designs for Halloween around the internet these days. And wreaths are my personal favorites. And I only find a few of them that are free pattern. Here are what I've found so far.

  1. Along Came A Spider Wreath by Olives and Okra. It's so neat and easy. Halloweens are mostly spiders. So this one features only spiders.
  2. Halloween Wreath by Lion Brand. So easy and simple. You need to make an account first before you can download the free pattern.
  3. Halloween Wreath by My Merry Messy Life. I like the word BOO! And a touch of black sunflowers.
  4.  Halloween Bat Wreath by Repeat Crafter Me. She makes so many beautiful wreaths. Wreath for every occasion of the year. And this time not only one BUT two wreath for the Halloween.
  5. Halloween Black Cat Wreath by  Repeat Crager Me. This is less creeper than the others because of the cut cat. Although it is black but it is still cute.

That sums up all the Halloween wreath I found around the web. It's not too late to make one this time. All this pattern are so easy to make you can do it in a day.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!

Basic Beanie

This a very easy pattern. Good for beginners to practice their crocheting skills. This is really very easy and also so handy. Here I made 3 sizes of beanie. For my husband (adult), my eldest (child- grade school) and my youngest ( toddler-preschooler). It's so easy to adjust the sizes also. I am currently making for my own (for women) so that all four of us has each one.

Pattern here is made for an adult. There are notes along the way for a toddler and a preschooler to a child.

Materials:
  • Red Heart Soft in 2 Contrasting Colors ( Cream & Royal Blue)
  • I /5.5 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors

Size
  • Toddler to Adult Size

Stitches used:
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • dc - double crochet
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • fpdc - front post double crochet
  • bpdc - back post double crochet

Instructions:
R1. Using your lighter color of yarn (cream), make a magic ring  and dc 12 into the ring. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2.

R2. Dc 2 in each stitches around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2.
R3.Dc in first stitch, dc 2 in next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2.

R4. Dc 1 in each 2 stitches, then dc 2 in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2. (

R5. Dc 1 in each 3 stitches, then  dc 2 in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2. If you are making one for a toddler just stop up to this point then continue on R7.)

R6 for a Preschooler to a child. Dc 1 in each 11 stitches, then dc 2 in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2.

R6.   Dc 1 in each 4 stitches, then  dc 2 in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around. Change color, join with a slip stitch into the first dc, chain 2.

R7 - R15. Dc in each stitches all the way around. For a toddler up to round 12 only. For a preschooler or a child up to round 13. And for an adult round 15. You must change color in every round. Then proceed all sizes to R16 for the band of the beanie.

R16. Chain 1, hdc in each stitches all the way around. Now on this round you don't need to change color anymore. We will now be making the band of the beanie in the same color as round 16.

R17. Chain 2, bpdc in the first stitch, fpdc in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern all the way around, then join with a sl st in first stitch of the round.

R18-R19. Repeat R17.
Here's a good tutorial from Tamara on Mooglyblog.com on how to make post stitches.

R20. Slip stitch each stitch all the way around. Then fasten off and weave all ends.

This hat is for the toddler

For Preschooler - Child

Young Adult - Adult

That's how easy this beanie is. And it is fast to make also. A good project to practice your skills in crochet

Hope you enjoy making this project and don't forget to Tag me on Instagram and Twitter with your finished project and also like my Page in Facebook, Si Nanay Madel. I would love to see what you've done and Pin it also on Pinterest.

How to Change Color in Crochet

How do you change color while crocheting? It is a very simple thing but makes a lot of difference in your work. And sometimes we just ignore it and do not pay much attention on how we change color while crocheting.

There are a lot of ways on how to change color while crocheting. And it is very useful especially if you are making a project in many colors or in stripes.

So here's how I change in colors while crocheting:

Step 1.  Do your work as you normally would. In this tutorial I am making a hat so I am crocheting in rounds. When you reach your last stitch, do not finish your stitch. Like in the picture below, I am making double crochets, so before I finish my last double crochet, I stop, just like in the picture.

Step 2. Then take your second yarn, or the other color and yarn over and pull through finishing your double crochet/stitch. The drop the first yarn that you are working, or cut it out if you will not use it anymore.

Step 3. Then continue your work, since I am working in rounds, so I will join to the first stitch of the round.

Then that's it, you've just changed your color. And you will notice that you can hardly see where you start to change your color or where you've attached the new yarn.

And it is also the same whether you are working in rows or in rounds.  Changing at the end or in the middle of your work. Single Crochets, Double, Half-double, Triple or whatever type of stitch you are making, the principle is the same. Before you finish your stitch you change your color. And continue working in rows or in rounds with the new yarn.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!

But I did not find anything that is a free pattern. Maybe there is one, but I did not come across with it. Newborn Hat & Booties (girl)

This is a simple yet very cute hat and booties for your little one. This pattern is for newborns but can be easily adjusted for older babies. I am actually making sets for boys and girls. But this post is for girls only, I will post the boys pattern earlier next week.

Materials:
Size - Newborn

Stitches Used:
  • Magic Ring
  • st(s) - stitch (es)
  • sc - single crochet
  • hdc - half double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • dc2gr - double crochet 2 together
  • sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Hat
R1. With your 5.0mm crochet hook, make a magic ring. Ch 2, dc 12 into the ring. Closed the ring tightly and join with a sl st in the first dc. Ch 2.

R2. 2 dc in each stitch around, join. Ch 2. (24 sts)

R3. Dc in first stitch, 2 dc in next stitch. Repeat all around, join. Ch 2. ( 36 sts)

R4-R9. Dc in each stitch around. Repeat all around, join. Ch 2. (36 sts)

R10. Slip stitch in each stitch around, join. Fasten off.
Weave all ends.

That's how easy the hat is. If you want a bigger size, just continue to add a stitch in every repeat after round 3.

For the flowers, I followed Crochet Rochelle Double Crochet Flower. And use Aunt Lydia's Crochet thread Number 3.

Booties

R1. Using your 3.5mm crochet hook, chain 13, 2 sc in first st, hdc, dc 10, dc 5 in last st of chain 13. Now let's keep working the other side of the chains. Dc 10, hdc, 2sc in last, join with a sl st and ch 1.

R2. 2 sc in each first two stitches, hdc, dc 10. Dc 2 in each of the next 5 stitches. Dc 10, hdc, 2 sc in each of the last two stitches. Join with a sl st and ch 1.

R3. Sc in each stitch around but only in the back loops.  Join, chain 2. (40 sts)

R4. Dc 14, dc2gr 5 times , then dc 16.  Join, chain 1.

R5. Sc, sc decrease, sc, sc decrease, then sc 6. Sc decrease 4 times, and sc 8, sc decrease, sc, sc decrease, and last sc in last st. Fasten off and weave all ends,

For the strap it is optional. At first I did not make straps for the booties but then realized that babies have different sizes of feet so some might not fit well, so straps are needed, but still optional.

Straps

Attached yarn to the 7th st from where you joined your work, then chain 12, and then sl st into the 6th chain from the hook to form a loop for the buttons, then sl st all the way to end. Fasten off and weave all ends. Just remember to attached your straps in opposite. Left and also one in right side.

Attached your buttons adjacent to your straps.

For the booties flower I used my own patternthe Flower Wreath. Just chain 12, then make the flower, then chain 12 again and go back just like the flower wreath by single crocheting each st of the strap. Then to make a double straps for the flower, chain 12 again and attached it to the flower, chain 12 again, then go back by single crocheting every st of the strap. Then attached your flower to your little shoes.

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!

Chocolate Banana Cupcakes

This is my own recipe. I did not copy this from anywhere or from someone. But I am not a professional baker, I just experimented on making this one and it  turned out okay, and delicious also. So I am not sure if there is something wrong with this one, all I know is that I love how it taste and my family loves it also. But also, this is the first time I did it with some chocolates. And again it turned out okay.

So, why am I sharing this recipe this one? Most of you would keep the recipe to yourself. But I believe in sharing, so I share this with all of you. And please tell me how it taste, or is there something that I need to add or change to make this recipe better.

Banana Cake Recipe
Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 or 1 cup sugar  - depends upon your choice, I usually use only 3/4 cups (a less sweeter.)
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mashed banana
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 175 degree Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a meduim bowl mix the dry ingredients first, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl mix the wet ones, mashed bananas, eggs, and milk.
  3. Then slowly add the dry ingredients to the mashed banana mix, using a whisk mix thoroughly and then add the melted butter. Do not over mix.
  4. Now this time if you want to make it with chocolate swirl, separate about a half of the ingredients in another container, and mix the cocoa powder on one of the batter.  Note: With this picture I already pour almost all the white batter to the paper cups when I remember that I have to take some pictures

  5.  Now pour first the white batter into the paper cups, then the chocolate batter and using a fork mix it lightly making some chocolate swirls.

  6. Now if you are making this as cupcakes, bake this for about 13-15 minutes at 175 degrees Celsius. For a cake, bake this for about 30-35 minutes in the same temperature. Now if this is a cake use a regular 9 inch round pan or a regular rectangular pan about 6 or 8 inch.
  7.  Let it cool before serving. Yeilds about 1 and a half dozen or 18 cupcakes.

Enjoy baking and eating!

So that's it. I hope you all learn something and enjoy this post. If you have any questions, comments or suggestion just leave a message on the comment box and I will gladly answer them. Thank you and God bless!
